You’re here because you love making movies. That’s what we’re here to do: help you dream up something great and guide your movie through the script and storyboard phases into production. From there we’ll take your project through post production before entering your film in the Annual Thomson Avenue Film Festival in June, where the top films will be screened.
That timeline might scare you a little. That’s OK. if you’re anxious it’s because you want your movie to be a good one. Luckily you’ll have lots of support in this class.
HUV241 gives students the opportunity to produce individual video projects which may serve as a “reel” for transfer or for employment in crafts and creative positions in production. The emphasis is on production of image and sound. Students learn standard formats such as narrative, documentary, music video and TV commercials, and learn how to use the tools and techniques of video production to express their personal visions. Students apply established models for continuity editing and the principles of montage. Students and faculty participate in critical analysis of students’ work-in-progress and finished projects. Prerequisite: HUV240. Pre- or Corequisite: HUV150.
Using the writer-director-actor model, students will learn directing, acting, screewnwriting and story basics, videography, sound recording, video editing, animation, and live-to-tape television techniques through a variety of hands-on exercises. We will be using BlackMagic 4K Pocket Cinema Cameras and Adobe Premiere Pro editing software (both provided by the college).
